Pagudpud is a coastal municipality in the province of Ilocos Norte.
The municipality has a land area of 19,564.13 hectares which constitutes 5.62% of Ilocos Norte’s total area. Its population as determined by the 2015 Community – Based Monitoring System (CBMS) was 21,782. This represented 2.72% of the total population of Ilocos Norte province, or 0.43% of the overall population of the Ilocos Region. The gross population density of the Municipality of Pagudpud has recorded 2 persons per hectare based on 2015 population and the total land area of the municipality. Population density by barangay were computed based on the ratio of population over barangay land area.
The Municipality of Pagudpud has a total population of 21,782 as of 2015 based on CBMS. Pagudpud has a predominantly employable population wherein Labor Force (15 and over) recorded as predominant having 15,879 for both sexes. The number of working / labor force is also indicative that new investors may resort to local residents in terms of employment opportunities.
On the other hand, the number of dependent population (before and after the working Age ) comes after the heels of the labor force. This entails a lot of responsibility on the part of the employed sector to ensure that this number is well-taken cared of.

School Going Population. The school going age population of the municipality for both sexes reached 9,017 of which 4,606 are males and 4,411 females with a percentage of 51.08% and 48.92% respectively. Elementary level has the highest recorded number of school-going age population of 2,870 (31.83%) of the total school-going population.
Working Age Population. Ages 15-64 which belong to the productive age or the working age has a total of 14,847 of which 7,375 or 50.91% are males and 7,112 or 49.09% represents the female working group.
Dependent Population. Of the two dependent population age bracket, young population covers 6,694 or 82.79% which outnumbered the old population covering only 1,392 or 17.21% of the total dependent population age bracket.
Sex Ratio is 105. Male population outnumbered their female counterparts with a sex ratio of 105 males for every 100 females. There were more males than females in almost age groups except the age groups 50-54 and 60 and above. In comparison to 2008, still, males outnumbered their female counterparts with a sex ratio of 104 males for every 100 females.
The percentage of the total population belonging to age group below 15 years old was 30.73%. The oldest group, (65 years old and above) accounted for 6.39% while 62.89% belonged to the economically active population (aged 15 to 64 years old).
Pagudpud had a median age of 25 years. This meant that in 2015, half of the population were 25 years old and below.
More females belonged to the voting population than males. There were 14,586 persons or 66.97% of the total population belonging to the voting population (18 years and above). The proportion of females (50.26 %) in this age group was higher than that of the males (49.74 %).
Almost half of female population were in child bearing age. Out of 10,632 total female population, 5,289 or 49.75% were in the child bearing or reproductive age (15 to 49 years). The highest percentage of which, were those of 15 to 19 years (9.95%). In comparison to the previous 2008 CBMS Survey, only 48.12% were capable of bearing a child of which the highest percentage belonged to the same age group in 2015. Thus, there is an increase of 3.39% of female population who could bear a child.
Total Dependency Ratio was 68. The percentage of the total population belonging to age group below 15 years old was 30.73%. The oldest group, (65 years old and above) accounted for 6.39% while 62.89% belonged to the economically active population (aged 15 to 64 years old).
The overall dependency ratio in 2015 was 59. This meant that for every 100 persons aged 15-64 years old there were about 59 dependents (49 persons aged 0-14 years young dependents; and 10 persons aged 65 years and over – old dependents). In 2008, the total dependent ratio was recorded at. 68 .
Population Density By Barangay
The two main factors determine a certain LGU’s population density are the (1) total population and the entire acreage of the given locality.
The gross population density of the Municipality of Pagudpud has recorded 2 persons per hectare based on 2015 population and the total land area of the municipality. Population density by barangay were computed based on the ratio of population over barangay land area.
The resultant population density of each barangay shown on the table below indicates that in the rural area Barangay Ligaya and Baduang has the highest number of 6 persons per hectare followed by Barangay Saud with 5 persons per hectare and the third densely populated barangay is Burayoc with 3 persons per hectare. The least densely populated rural barangay is Pancian and Caparispisan with zero persons per hectare in cognizance of it sufficiently endowed vast land resources.
In the urban area, it has a gross density of 2.06 or 2 persons per hectare of land. Urban barangay has the most densely populated since it is situated heart of the municipality whereby the government is seated and commerce and trade is generally conducted. Barangay Poblacion 2 ranks number 1 with a population density of 18 followed by Barangay Poblacion 1 with 16 persons per hectare.

Historical growth is an amount of increase that a specific variable has gained within a specific period and context. Typically represents the compounded annualized rate of growth of population, economy, revenues and others.
Basing on the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) data, The Municipality of Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte has a population of 23,770 as of Censal Year 2015. The first official census of population was conducted in 1960 recording a total of 8,702 persons. From then on, there has been increasing trend of population change. The highest growth rate was recorded in 1963 and 2000 with 2.63% and 2.38% respectively.
